Final Video
" Levi"
By Brooke Biasella
Assignment:
The assignment for this project was to capture a story of a event or student at Olathe Northwest. There were a few requirements we had to have which was to include something that was brightening about Olathe Northwest. It had to be between a minute to a minute and thirty seconds. We were given around three to four weeks to complete this project. After said project was completed it was to be shown in a newscast at Olathe Northwest called ONW Now. Everyone doing a convergence journalism item was to attend and help in this event.
Idea/Concept:
My idea was to capture a film about a junior at Olathe Northwest named levi who suffers from seller palsy. My idea was to interview his mother and find key aspects about levi and then interview levi and find things he was interested in and what made Olathe Northwest a good place for him. During the interviewing process I learned to make sure all auto and sound was working because I ran into a bump with the sound not working on Levi. I also learned how to write professional questions and really get convincing answers from the person I was interviewing.
Filming:
while I went out to film Levi and get as much bi-roll as possible I came up with a problem. I got to many wide and medium shots and needed more close up because it more captivating for the audience. I made sure when I went out to film I did the six shot sequence to really get the full effect out of my shots. Also I got over 200 shots of bi-rolls so I could really captivate who Levi is and the effect he has on Olathe Northwest.
Editing:
When getting to the editing process I am became a perfectionist and made sure everything was perfect. I ran into a few bumps with auto and sounding difference because my video was overall to quiet and a little long. Levi's mother said so many great things and it was so hard to sum it down to a minute and thirty seconds. I also was on a huge time crunch and getting it all done was hard one night during the week I stayed at school till ten at night finishing my video.
Refection:
Overall I was very pleased with this video and loved working with Levi and talking to him. His parent were very supportive and nice. I don't think I will forever forget the experience I had with Levi he truly was a joy to work with and his smile is contagious. :)

Hunger Games Final
The goal for this project was to capture the a remix of the Hunger Games and portray the shooting of a victim in the hunger games and have them get hit by a arrow. We wanted the audience to feel bad for Pope when she died but the real the victim was suppose to me but I broke my arm and didn't think it would be wise to fall on the ground.
Our production process was first collaborate about an idea and the idea of the hunger games came into our minds. The new started making our story board and created scenes and shots to get ready to film.
We had a problem with not knowing if the studio was open and that caused us to be behind. Once we got in the studio and started doing our three point lighting that was the most difficult part and figuring out our shot sequence. We made a mistake by have a moving image because we thought we could edit a movie image and not just take still shots. But we ended up having a moving image and that made it 10 times harder. once we got back to the room and started the editing process and we had some problems in editing because we really didn't know what we were doing, so Mr. Netterville had to help us out a lot and teach us hoe to take our moving image and have it in a different place. After we finished editing and making our arrow in Maya and Aftereffects we then rendered it out and put in the server folder.
If I could go back and fix the moving image and how hard that was to edit I would change our movie to having a still shots. Also I wish I personally would be more of a team member and helped my team out. I didn't help out very much and i should of so we could have a even better product in the long run.
If i didn't have to change anything i wouldn't trade my group for anything we all get along so well and all love each other. I wouldn't change our idea because we still captured a story in 7 seconds which is pretty cool. I loved the background and I give props to Sarah Price for finding our amazing background.
I have learned how to use a green screen which is so cool and a great source because I will be in convergence next year and we use a green screen for our broadcast and knowing how to light it and use it is a great source. I learned a lot this year more than I thought I would and all the resources you gave me will help me in the future through my journey in film and journalism.

Maya Tools
PolyThing
In Maya we learned how to use different ways of lighting and how to make the figure stand out and not be in the dark and also not be hidden. One of the ways was spot lighting, where the figure is in an arrow form and its purpose is to use lighting like a spot light. Area lighting is where the light takes up a big chuck of the area is more of like a sun and helps shadow the figure in place. Ambient light is like neon light it makes it glow and come to life and gives it an in-depth glow. Point lighting is similar to spot lighting but it is brighter and takes up more surface and area and helps shine points of purpose in the figure. Overall this project wasn't to complicated I have realized it gets much harder later on and it takes time and really understanding all the tools.
Hammer
The cut face tool is used to cut a polygons in half or where ever you need cut. After you cut the face in half you can mess with it. The extrude tool lets you take the outline of a cup or other object that you draw out in the top view. After you finish drawing only half of it you click the extrude button and a magical cup comes up and it makes it take shape. The bevel softens it out and make the corners round.
Ice Cream
Bump mapping allows you to and more texture and make it more animated and more refined as a object. Looping the video allows you to to take your keyframes and have them go constantly and the image repeats the same movement of the keyframes constantly.
Bouncing Spheres
The keyframes allow you to add movement to your object you have created. It gives it movement and a point of being. To set up your keyframes you go to the timeline at the bottom and start with one keyframes and start moving your object in certain ways and each time you add a keyframe. The graph editor allows you to edit the keyframes you already have in place and let you change the flow of things and help you change things.
Cup
NURBS is a different type of shape and gives you more options and is different from the regular boring polygons you have. The curve tool lets you make curved edges and different shapes. It also helps you turn on the vertex tool and helps you control your edges and transform it to the shape you want. The revolve tool makes the cup 3D and give it depth and lets your create a image faster and easier.
Salt Shaker
The circle tool lets you take a shape and then put it on vertex mode and change the points and vertexes to the shape you want. The loft tool helps you take multiple shapes that are flat and scale them to make a 3D image.

Safe and Sound Blog Post
I learned how to cut audio and make it flow with the video and the shots. i also learned that you can crop shots and make them look more nessary and crop out useless background images. I liked this project a lot I learned more about collaboration and camera techniques to enhance the production of the film and over al quality of the story. Safe and Sound in my eyes isn't my best work the story could of been stronger and more storyboarding and all team efforts were needed and we simply didn't have that.
